THREAD: Are gummy vitamins just candy in disguise? Sugar content worries...Started by WellnessWendy729

Hey everyone, I've been taking B12 gummies for energy during marathon training, but I just checked the label and was shocked! 15g of sugar per serving?? That's like eating a small candy bar. Aren't we supposed to be getting healthier with supplements, not loading up on sugar? Feels like they're just candy-fying everything these days. What's the point if I'm undoing the benefits with all that sugar?

Wendy, I feel you but honestly as a weekend warrior who hates swallowing pills, the convenience is worth it for me. I tried the regular B12 tablets and kept forgetting to take them. With the gummies, I actually remember daily. Yeah there's some sugar, but it's not like I'm eating the whole bottle. Maybe look for sugar-free options? I think some brands use stevia.

As a grandparent, this concerns me deeply. My grandchildren take these because they think they're candy, and I worry about teaching them that supplements should taste like treats. What happened to good old-fashioned vitamins? The purity is compromised with all these additives and sweeteners. We managed fine with basic supplements for decades. Now everything has to be 'fun' and 'tasty' - at what cost to our health?

Ivy, you make a great point about the messaging! Ben, I get the convenience factor - I really do. But as an athlete tracking every gram of nutrition, that sugar adds up. Maybe I'll try the sublingual drops instead? Less convenient but no sugar. Anyone tried those for B12? Still frustrated that companies feel the need to candy-fy everything though.

Fair points from both of you! Wendy - never tried the drops but let me know if they work. Ivy - I see what you mean about kids thinking they're candy. Maybe we need better education along with the supplements? Like 'these are medicine, not treats' even if they taste good. Balance is key I guess - convenience vs purity like you said!
