THREAD: B12 Gummies - Are We Overdoing It? New Article on Dosage LimitsStarted by OP
2/3/2026, 12:08 PM#1
Hey everyone, just saw this article and thought it was super relevant to our B12 discussions: "Are you taking supplements correctly? Here’s a guide on their dosage limits"
A recent news report highlights a critical, yet often overlooked, aspect of the booming supplement industry: the importance of proper dosing. It talks about how easy it is to exceed recommended limits with gummies since they taste like candy. What do you all think? Are we paying enough attention to how much B12 we're actually taking?

Ugh, this is exactly why I'm so skeptical about these gummy vitamins! My kids see them as candy and would eat the whole bottle if I let them. The article is right - nobody reads the labels properly. I stick to whole foods for B12 (fortified nutritional yeast in our pasta sauce) because at least I know exactly what we're getting. These companies just want to sell more gummies, they don't care about overdose risks. Has anyone actually measured what's REALLY in these bottles versus what the label says?

While I appreciate the caution, friends, we must remember that B12 is water-soluble - your body excretes what it doesn't need! The real issue isn't overdose, it's underdose due to poor absorption. Many people, especially vegans and elders, need MORE than the RDA. My holistic approach: listen to your body's energy signals. That said, I do agree we should be mindful - I take my B12 gummy with a fat source (like avocado) for better absorption. Balance is key!

lol i just take them cuz they taste amazing?? the cherry ones from Nature's Way are literally better than actual candy. but yeah i guess i should check how many im eating... sometimes i have 2-3 instead of 1 when i want a sweet fix. are there any B12 gummies that taste good BUT also have clear dosing instructions? like maybe ones that come in individual packets so i dont mindlessly grab from the jar?

@TendonTom598 See?? This is what I mean! "Better than actual candy" - that's the problem! They're marketing supplements as treats. And @LemonLiam335, just because it's water-soluble doesn't mean there aren't risks with mega-doses long-term. My sister's doctor told her high B12 can mask other deficiencies. We need more regulation, not more "listen to your body" advice when the products are designed to be addictive.
