THREAD: Help! My homemade B12 gummies turned into a sticky mess - recipe tips?Started by OP

Hey everyone, tried making my own B12 gummies at home this weekend and it was a disaster. Used gelatin, some fruit juice, and a B12 powder supplement I got online. They never set properly - just stayed gooey and stuck to everything. Anyone have a reliable recipe or know what I did wrong? Trying to save money instead of buying premade ones.

First off, gelatin is made from animal bones/skin - not vegan! You should be using agar agar instead, it's plant-based. I make B12 gummies all the time with agar, fruit puree, and a liquid B12 supplement. Key is to boil the agar mixture for a full minute to activate it, then pour quickly before it starts to set. Also, make sure your B12 powder is heat-stable - some degrade when cooked.

lol greg always on that vegan tip. OP - i feel your pain! my first batch was a sticky disaster too. Found that adding a bit more gelatin than recipes say helps, especially if you're adding liquid supplements. Also, let them set in the fridge overnight, not just a few hours. What was your gelatin to liquid ratio? Might be too much juice.

GreenGreg is right about agar being superior - ethical AND works better for gummies in my experience. Animal gelatin is just gross when you think about it. To OP: Did you use enough gelling agent? Common mistake. Also, some B12 powders have fillers that mess with texture. Try a pure methylcobalamin powder next time. Pro tip: add a little citrus juice - helps with absorption!
