THREAD: Help! My homemade B12 gummies turned into a sticky mess - recipe tips neededStarted by MountainMike309

Hey folks, I tried making B12 gummies for my grandkids using gelatin and some vitamin powder I bought online. Followed a basic recipe but they came out all gooey and wouldn't set properly. Anyone have a foolproof recipe? I'm worried about wasting expensive supplements. The grandkids need their B12 but store-bought ones have so much sugar!

Honestly Mike, this is why I'm skeptical about DIY supplements. You're probably using the wrong gelatin-to-liquid ratio, or your B12 powder isn't pure. Most of those 'vitamin powders' are cut with fillers that mess with chemistry. Have you tested your source? I'd stick to reputable brands - at least they have quality control.

I feel you Mike! As a digital nomad, I make my own B12 gummies all the time - perfect for travel. Key is using agar agar instead of gelatin if you're having setting issues. Also, add a tiny bit of citric acid to help with preservation. My recipe: 1 cup juice, 2 tbsp agar powder, 1/4 tsp B12 powder (methylcobalamin works best), heat slowly and pour into molds. Sets in 30 min!

We make ours weekly! We use grass-fed gelatin, organic elderberry juice for color, and a dropper of liquid B12 (easier to mix). The trick is to let the gelatin bloom in cold juice first, then heat gently - never boil! Also, silicone molds from Etsy work better than plastic. How much B12 powder are you using? Too much can prevent setting.

Thanks everyone! Sam - I'll try agar agar next time. Mila - I was using 1/2 tsp powder per batch, maybe that's too much? Zack - I get your point but the store brands add artificial colors my grandkids react to. Appreciate the tips - going to attempt batch #2 this weekend!
