THREAD: Just saw a study on collagen gummies - legit or marketing hype?Started by OP

Hey everyone, stumbled on this study (PMID: 12345678) about collagen peptides in gummies improving skin elasticity. The research was funded by a supplement company though... What do you all think? Is this solid science or just biased marketing? I've been taking beauty gummies for a month but wanna make sure I'm not wasting money on snake oil lol.

OP, I'm skeptical of ANY study funded by corps pushing products. Most gummies are loaded with sugar and carbs that wreck ketosis. If you want real beauty benefits, focus on whole foods like avocados and bone broth - natural collagen sources without the junk fillers. That study probably ignores the inflammatory effects of their gummy bases.

Med student here. The funding source is a red flag for potential bias, but let's evaluate the methodology. Was it peer-reviewed? Randomized controlled trial or observational? Collagen peptides do show promise in small studies for skin hydration, but oral bioavailability is debated. Check if they used a placebo group and disclosed conflicts of interest. Might be partial truth exaggerated.

omg i love my beauty gummies! they make me feel so zen when i take them with my morning meditation lol. but yeah i get worried about studies too. maybe just listen to your body? like if your skin feels happier thats what matters right? but also maybe check if the researchers meditate haha jk

Thanks all! @IndigoIris934 it was a double-blind RCT published in a dermatology journal, but the conflict of interest section was tiny. @EarthElias661 good point about fillers - mine have 3g sugar per serving. @MangoMia976 my skin does feel softer but could be placebo! Might switch to a sugar-free version and track more closely.
