THREAD: My biotin gummies turned weird - are they still safe to eat?Started by OP

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I bought a bottle of biotin gummies about 2 months ago and they've been sitting in my pantry. I went to take one today and noticed they've changed - some have white spots on them (looks like sugar maybe?), others feel kinda hard and they're all sticking together in a clump. They smell fine, but I'm worried. Are these still safe to take or should I toss them?

OP, that sounds like classic sugar bloom and moisture issues! The white spots are likely sugar crystals forming on the surface due to humidity changes - harmless but can affect texture. Hardening might mean they're drying out, and sticking together suggests they absorbed moisture then re-crystallized. Chemically, the biotin should still be stable if stored in a cool, dark place. Check the expiration date, but they're probably safe if no mold or off smells. Still, texture might be unpleasant!

lol another supplement quality issue. These companies charge premium prices for sugar and gelatin then can't even keep them fresh. I'd toss them - who knows what other ingredients degraded. If they can't maintain basic texture in 2 months, makes you question everything else. Save your money and just eat eggs for biotin.

As a mom, I'd be cautious. My kids' vitamins did this once and I threw them out immediately. Even if 'technically' safe, why risk it? Especially with supplements - if the texture changed, maybe other things changed too. I'd contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement. Always store gummies in their original container with the lid tight!

Fellow home cook here! This happens with homemade gummies too - it's usually just sugar crystallization or moisture loss. If they're not moldy and smell okay, they're probably fine to eat, just might be chewy or gritty. Try storing them with a silica gel packet next time to absorb moisture. But honestly, if they taste weird or you're uncomfortable, better safe than sorry!
