THREAD: My toddler thinks biotin gummies are candy - help!Started by OP

Hey everyone, need some advice! My 4-year-old daughter found my biotin gummies and thought they were candy. She ate like 5 before I caught her! No harm done (I called poison control just in case), but now she keeps asking for 'mommy's special candy' and throws a fit when I say no. Anyone else deal with this? Also, my husband refuses to take them because he says the texture is 'weirdly chewy' - men, amirite?

OP, glad your daughter is okay! Biotin is water-soluble so excess usually just gets excreted, but definitely keep those gummies locked up! I use a childproof pill organizer for mine. As for texture - tell your husband to try different brands! Some are firmer, some are softer. I'm currently loving the organic ones from Nature's Way - perfect chewiness IMO. Also, biotin is great for hair and nails, he might appreciate that!

Retired nurse here - you did the right thing calling poison control! Always better safe than sorry. In my experience, it's crucial to teach kids early that supplements aren't candy. I used to tell my grandkids 'these are medicine vitamins' and kept them in the medicine cabinet. As for texture complaints, I find refrigerating them sometimes helps firm them up if they're too soft for someone's liking.

Oh I feel you! My yoga students sometimes joke about 'vitamin candy' too. Maybe try making it a mindfulness moment with your daughter? Explain how these special gummies help mommy's hair and nails stay healthy, but they're only for grown-ups. You could even get her some regular vitamins that are appropriate for kids so she has her own 'special' ones. As for texture - some people are just sensitive to certain mouthfeels! No judgment here.

lol my wife did the same thing when I first got biotin gummies! She ate half the bottle thinking they were gummy bears. Now I keep mine in an old protein powder container labeled 'DIY SUPPLIES - DO NOT EAT' in my workshop. Works like a charm! If the texture bothers your hubby, maybe try crushing them into a smoothie? I've done that when I was between brands and it worked okay. Not ideal but gets the job done!
