Do gummy vitamins melt in a hot car/plane? TSA? Hiking? Need tips!
Hey all! I'm going on a road trip next week and also flying to a hiking spot. I take gummy vitamins daily (multi + biotin). Will they melt in my car or in my checked luggage? Also, does TSA care about gummies? Any storage hacks? I'm a caffeine addict so I need my vitamins to keep me alive lol. Thanks!
TSA: Gummies are fine in carry-on. They might look like edibles but TSA doesn't care unless you're acting sketch. Just keep them in original container or a clear bag. As for melting, yes they can melt if it gets above ~80°F. I use a small insulated lunch bag with a freezer pack for travel. Works great for road trips. For hiking, I transfer to a silicone travel container that's airtight. Don't leave them in a hot car obviously.
I flew last month with gummies in my carry-on and had zero issues. I put them in a ziplock with the label from the bottle just in case. They didn't melt on the plane (it's cold up there). But in my checked bag? They got a little soft but didn't fully melt. I'd recommend carry-on. Also, if you're hiking, avoid the ones with gelatin if it's hot—they get sticky. Pectin ones hold up better. Just my 2 cents!
DIY tip: I bought a small hard-shell sunglasses case and lined it with bubble wrap. Fits a week's worth of gummies and protects them from crushing and heat. For road trips, I keep them in a cooler with a reusable ice pack. Also, pro tip: if they do melt, you can reshape them in the fridge on parchment paper. Not ideal but works. And TSA—never had a problem. They swabbed my bag once but that's it.
Thanks everyone! I'll definitely do carry-on and get a small insulated bag. The sunglasses case idea is genius! I'll also look for pectin-based gummies. Appreciate the help!
