THREAD: My gummy vitamins look weird - are they still safe to take?Started by OP

Hey everyone, I've been taking these gummy multivitamins for a few months now, but I just opened a new bottle and they look... off. Some of them have turned a darker color, almost brownish instead of the usual bright orange. A few are also kinda hard and stuck together in clumps. I'm worried they might have gone bad. Are these still safe to eat, or should I toss them? Thanks!

OP, that sounds like classic sugar bloom and oxidation. Gummies contain gelatin, sugars, and oils that can degrade with heat, humidity, or age. The color change is likely oxidation of the vitamins (especially if they contain iron or B vitamins). The hardening/clumping is sugar crystallization or moisture loss. While probably not harmful chemically, texture changes can affect nutrient stability. Check the expiration date and storage conditions - were they in a hot car or bathroom? Personally, I'd contact the manufacturer for a replacement if within date.

HealthHacker's right about the science, but let's talk energetics! When supplements degrade, they lose their vital life force. Your body intuitively noticed something was off - that's why you posted. I'd trust that instinct. In my holistic practice, I recommend fresh, whole-food based supplements whenever possible. These processed gummies often have stabilizers that can break down. If they don't feel right, don't consume them. Maybe try a liquid vitamin or powder you mix fresh daily?

Night shift worker here - I've totally had this happen! My gummy melatonin got all hard and stuck together after I left the bottle in my locker at work. Still ate them though lol. Didn't get sick or anything, just tasted weird. But if they're changing color dramatically, that seems more concerning. Maybe take a photo and email the company? They might send you a new bottle. In the meantime, if you need your vitamins, maybe grab a small backup bottle from the store?

As someone who does intermittent fasting, I'm super careful about what I put in my eating window. If my supplements looked questionable, I'd skip them entirely rather than risk it. The texture changes suggest moisture issues which could allow mold growth, even if not visible. Not worth the gamble during your feeding period when nutrients should be optimal. Could you switch to capsules temporarily? They're more stable than gummies in my experience. Stay safe!
