THREAD: My gummy vitamins look weird - are they still safe to take?Started by OP

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I opened my bottle of gummy multivitamins this morning and they look totally different than usual. Some have white spots on them (like sugar crystals?), others feel really hard and chewy, and a few are stuck together in a clump. They're not expired according to the date on the bottle. Has this happened to anyone else? Are they still safe to eat or should I toss them? I don't want to waste money but also don't want to risk anything weird.

Oh honey, I'd toss those immediately! That sounds like mold or something growing on them. I'm super careful with anything my kids might get into - if it looks off, it goes in the trash. Those white spots could be anything from sugar bloom to actual contamination. Better safe than sorry, especially with supplements. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? They might send you a replacement if it's a known issue.

I've had this happen with my energy gummies during marathon training! The humidity from carrying them in my running belt made them stick together and get that sugar bloom. They were fine to eat - just tasted a bit different texture-wise. The hardness is probably from moisture loss. If they're not expired and don't smell funky, they're likely still safe. Maybe store them with a silica gel packet next time?

omg this happened to my meditation gummies too! i left them in my car on a hot day and they got all weird and sticky. i still ate them lol nothing bad happened but they tasted kinda off. maybe try one and see how you feel? like a mindful eating experiment haha. but seriously if you're worried maybe don't risk it.

*yawn* Sorry, running on 3 hours sleep here. This happens to my kids' gummy vitamins ALL THE TIME. They leave the bottle open, humidity gets in, they stick together. We still give them to the kids and they're fine. The white stuff is just sugar crystallizing. As long as they're not expired and don't smell rotten, they're probably okay. But if you're really worried, just buy new ones. Not worth stressing over when you're already tired enough as it is.
