Collagen gummies are just candy with a health halo, change my mind

Okay, I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I need to vent. I've been taking collagen powder in my coffee for years, no fuss, no sugar, just results. But lately EVERYONE is pushing these collagen gummies. I looked at the label of a popular brand and it's basically a gummy bear with a sprinkle of collagen. 3 grams of sugar per gummy, and you need to take 2-4 for any benefit? That's 6-12g of sugar just to get maybe 5g of collagen. That's not a supplement, that's dessert. What happened to just choking down a scoop of powder? Are we so addicted to candy that we need our vitamins to taste like Haribo? Rant over. Tell me I'm not crazy.

You're not crazy, Ivy. I do intermittent fasting and collagen gummies are a total no-go for me. They break my fast and spike my insulin. I get that convenience is king for some people, but the sugar content is ridiculous. Even the 'sugar-free' ones use maltitol or sorbitol which can cause major GI distress. No thanks. I'll stick to my unflavored collagen peptides in water. It tastes like nothing, but at least it's not a candy binge.

Eh, I see both sides. I'm a weekend warrior and I travel a lot for work. Sometimes I just don't have time to mix a powder. I throw a pack of collagen gummies in my bag and chew them on the go. Yeah, they have sugar, but it's way better than skipping my collagen entirely. Plus, they actually taste good, so I remember to take them. I think for people who struggle with consistency, the convenience outweighs the sugar. But I do wish they'd make a lower-sugar version that doesn't taste like chemicals.

As a wellness influencer, I get asked about this all the time. Here's the tea: most collagen gummies are a scam. The amount of collagen per gummy is often way below the clinically effective dose (usually 2.5-10g). So you're paying a premium for sugar and gelatin (which is also collagen, but not the type you want). If you want real results, powder or capsules are the way to go. But if you're just looking for a tasty treat that might help your skin a little, go for it. Just don't kid yourself that it's a 'supplement'. It's candy with benefits. And that's okay if you're okay with that.

Thanks for the validation, Holly. And Ken, you're right – I think my issue is the marketing. They make it seem like these gummies are a legitimate health product, but they're really just a treat. I don't mind people enjoying them, but I hate the deception. Sid, I get the convenience angle, I really do. But have you tried the single-serve collagen powder sticks? They're just as portable and zero sugar. Might be worth a shot if you want the best of both worlds.
