THREAD: Looking for collagen gummy recommendations - gift for aging parent or fitness friend?Started by GlowGigi

Hey everyone! I'm looking to get some collagen gummies as a gift - either for my mom who's in her 70s (she's been complaining about joint stiffness) OR for my gym-obsessed friend who's always talking about recovery. I want something that actually works, not just sugary junk. Anyone have experience with specific brands or 'health packs' that combine collagen with other good stuff? Bonus if it's easy on sensitive stomachs - mom's digestive system can be picky. Thanks!

OP, I feel you! As someone who's always on the move (currently typing this from a Bali co-working space lol), I've tried a bunch. For your fitness friend, check out 'Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Gummies' - they have hyaluronic acid too which is great for joints. Tastes decent, no weird aftertaste. For your mom, maybe something with added vitamin C? Helps with absorption. I'd avoid anything with artificial colors though - some brands use those and they can upset sensitive stomachs.

Retired nurse here - glad you're thinking about digestive sensitivity, GlowGigi! Many older patients I worked with had trouble with traditional collagen supplements. For your mother, I'd recommend 'Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies' - they contain collagen type I & III plus biotin and vitamin C. They're gentle and the dosage is appropriate for seniors. Avoid anything with high sugar content or magnesium stearate (common filler that can cause issues). For joints specifically, look for products with added turmeric or ginger.

Thanks both! Frank - the Bali comment made me jealous while I'm here with a toddler who hasn't slept through the night in weeks 😴 Nina - really appreciate the medical perspective. Follow-up question: has anyone tried those subscription 'wellness packs' that include collagen gummies plus other supplements? I saw one called 'Care/of' that does personalized packs. Worried it might be overkill though. Also, any thoughts on marine vs. bovine collagen for gummies?

LOL GlowGigi - trade you my unreliable WiFi for some sleep? 😂 On subscriptions: I tried 'Ritual' for a bit. Convenient but pricey. Their collagen gummies are clean ingredient-wise though. Marine vs bovine - marine is usually from fish scales/skin, bovine from cows. Marine absorbs faster supposedly, but I've read bovine might be better for joints? Honestly both work if they're hydrolyzed properly. For gifts, maybe get individual bottles first to see what they like before committing to a subscription. Pro tip: check if your mom's on blood thinners - some marine collagen can interact (learned that the hard way with my dad).
