My creatine gummies turned into a sticky blob – still safe to eat??
Okay so I bought a big jar of creatine gummies like 2 months ago. They were fine at first but now they're all stuck together in one giant clump and some of them have white spots? Also they feel kinda hard and chewy. I keep them in my kitchen cabinet near the stove so maybe heat got to them? Are they still safe to eat or should I toss? I don't wanna waste $30 lol. Thanks!
Hey Tina! I'm not a food scientist but I'm a DIY queen and I've seen this with gummy vitamins before. The white spots are probably 'sugar bloom' – basically sugar crystals coming to the surface because of moisture or temp changes. Not harmful, just ugly. Sticking together = heat + humidity. As long as no mold (fuzzy, green/black) and they don't smell weird, they're likely fine. But creatine can degrade with heat, so they might be less effective. I'd say eat at your own risk but don't expect the same potency. Also, keep them in a cool dry place next time! Oh and check for any pink or blue fuzz.
I'm a fitness pro and I've had clients ask this. Honestly, creatine gummies are already a dicey way to get creatine because the dose is low and stability is iffy. If they've melted and re-hardened, the creatine might have broken down into creatinine (which is just a waste product). It won't hurt you but it won't help either. If they were mine, I'd toss and switch to powder. But if you're determined, do a small taste test – if it's bitter or sour beyond normal, spit it out. And for the love of gains, don't store near the stove! 😂
Thanks both! No fuzzy stuff, just white spots and clumping. They smell like normal gummies, kinda fruity. I'll try one and see. @CrystalCathy155 yeah I know powder is better but I hate the texture. Guess I'll keep them in the fridge from now on. If I don't reply in 24h, you'll know they got me lol jk
Lol you'll be fine. Fridge might make them even harder though – condensation and all. Maybe just a cool pantry. Let us know if you survive! 😄
