THREAD: Elderberry gummies - my toddler thinks they're candy! Help!Started by OP

Okay, so I started giving my 4-year-old elderberry gummies for immune support this season. Big mistake! Now she calls them 'mommy's special candy' and keeps trying to sneak into the cabinet. Yesterday I caught her with the bottle, trying to twist it open like a pro. She said 'just one more, pleeeease?' with those puppy dog eyes. Anyone else deal with this? How do you explain supplements vs candy to little kids without a full-on meltdown?

OMG, I feel you! My partner did something similar with our vegan elderberry gummies last winter. He thought they were just fancy fruit snacks and ate half the bottle in one sitting. Had to have a serious talk about dosage, lol. For kids, maybe try making it a special 'health time' ritual? We do ours after breakfast with a little song about staying strong. Also, check if your brand uses natural colors - some of those bright ones really do look like candy!

At least yours will eat them! My keto-adapted teen refuses ANY gummies now because of the texture - says they're 'too jiggly' and prefers capsules. Which, fine, but the elderberry gummies were so convenient! Maybe try the sugar-free ones? They're less candy-like sometimes. But careful with sweeteners if you're avoiding certain ingredients. My kid once mistook my electrolyte gummies for candy and let's just say... digestive consequences ensued. 😅

Haha, I'm dealing with the opposite - my husband won't touch them because they 'taste too healthy' compared to his coffee jelly candies. Says the elderberry ones have an 'earthy aftertaste.' Meanwhile I'm over here mainlining caffeine gummies just to function! Maybe try mixing them with actual candy? Like 'one vitamin, one treat' system? Though that might reinforce the candy association... Parenting is hard without my 3pm espresso, lol.
