THREAD: My toddler thinks my elderberry gummies are candy - hilarious/terrifying story!Started by HolisticHolly715

Okay so I work nights and my sleep schedule is all over the place. Yesterday I left my bottle of elderberry gummies on the kitchen counter after my morning dose. My 4-year-old found them and ate like 5 before I noticed! He came running to me saying 'Mommy I found the yummy purple candy!' I panicked but he's fine - just extra energetic lol. Anyone else have kids who mistake these for treats? Should I be worried about the extra dose?

First, glad your little one is okay! But this is exactly why I advocate for whole-food sources over processed supplements. Have you considered making homemade elderberry syrup? It's vegan, you control the ingredients, and it doesn't look like candy. My recipe uses organic elderberries, local honey (or maple syrup for strict vegans), and ginger. No confusing gummy shapes!

Oh this takes me back! My husband used to call my prenatal vitamins 'mommy candy' when I was pregnant with our now-teenager. With elderberry gummies though - my middle child REFUSES them because of the texture! Says they're 'slimy' and 'weird chewy.' Meanwhile my youngest would eat the whole bottle if I let him. Maybe try the syrup Greg mentioned? Though honestly, the gummies remind me of those fruit snacks we had as kids in the 90s...

Meditation rookie here - I find this happens with my calming supplements too! My partner thought my ashwagandha gummies were regular candy last week. Maybe try storing them with your other meds/supplements rather than in the kitchen? Also, deep breaths - kids are resilient! I meditate on not freaking out when stuff like this happens. Namaste 🙏

Thanks everyone! Greg281 - I'll look into that syrup recipe, sounds healthier anyway. Willow - LOL at 'mommy candy'! And Greg567 - good point about storage. I've moved them to the highest cabinet. The texture thing is real though - my kid who ate them loves gummy anything, but my older one gags at the thought. Guess I'll be making syrup for one and hiding gummies from the other 😂 Night shift probs!
