THREAD: DIY Fiber Gummies Disaster - Help Needed!Started by VitalVince850
1/18/2026, 01:11 PM#1
Hey everyone, I tried making my own fiber gummies at home to save money and control ingredients. Used gelatin, some vitamin powder, and a fiber supplement. But they came out super rubbery and wouldn't set properly - more like weird jello blobs than gummies. Anyone have a good recipe or tips? I'm trying to be more mindful about what I put in my body, but this batch was a total fail. Help a rookie out!

Vince! I feel your pain, bro. I've been making my own supps for years. First tip: ditch the gelatin and use agar agar - it's plant-based and sets firmer. Also, what fiber are you using? Psyllium husk powder can get slimy if you don't mix it right. I use acacia fiber powder, 1 tsp per cup of liquid, and add a bit of citric acid to help with texture. Oh, and make sure your vitamin powder is water-soluble! Some just clump up. Let me know what you're working with and I can share my exact recipe!

Greg's right about agar being more reliable for structure. Scientifically, gelatin melts at body temp while agar sets at room temp and stays firm. For fiber gummies, the molecular weight of your fiber source matters - inulin or soluble corn fiber might work better than psyllium. Also, what temperature did you heat your mixture to? Agar needs to reach 85-90°C to activate properly. And are you using any gums or starches as stabilizers? Without them, crystallization can occur during cooling.

lol been there! I tried making these while working remotely in Bali last month - total kitchen disaster. My advice: keep it simple. I use 1 cup juice (sugar-free), 2 tbsp agar powder, 1 tbsp fiber powder, and my vitamin mix. Heat slowly, stir constantly (I put on a podcast while doing it), pour into molds IMMEDIATELY. They set in about an hour. Pro tip: add a tiny bit of sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier if your powders aren't blending well. Works every time for me now!
