THREAD: Help! My homemade fiber gummies are a disaster - any recipe tips?Started by OP

Hey everyone, first time trying to make my own fiber gummies at home. I used gelatin and some psyllium husk powder I had, plus a little vitamin C powder for good measure. Followed a basic gummy recipe I found online but they came out super rubbery and tasted awful - like chalky jello. Anyone have a good recipe or know what I did wrong? Trying to avoid store-bought ones with all the extra sugars.

Oh honey, I feel you! I make my own adaptogen gummies for my yoga students all the time. First tip - ditch the gelatin and use agar agar. It's plant-based and sets up nicer with fiber powders. Also, psyllium can get slimy if you don't hydrate it separately first. Try mixing it with a little warm water before adding to your mix. And for taste - a splash of organic lemon juice and a tiny bit of local honey makes all the difference! It's all about balancing the elements ✨

As someone who makes gummies for my grandkids (with their parents' permission of course!), I have to ask - are you sure about the dosage? Homemade vitamin gummies can be tricky because it's hard to measure the exact amount in each piece. My grandson had a tummy ache once when I experimented with fiber powder. Maybe start with a simpler recipe first? Also, rubbery texture usually means too much gelatin or not enough liquid. Try 1 tbsp gelatin per cup of liquid next time.

Props for DIY-ing! But have you considered the environmental impact of all those single-use supplement bottles vs making your own? I use chia seeds instead of psyllium - they're locally sourced and have great fiber. My recipe: 1 cup fruit juice (organic, no added sugar), 2 tbsp chia soaked overnight, 3 tbsp agar powder. Heat gently, pour into silicone molds (NOT plastic!), cool. Zero waste and actually tastes good! The chia gives a nice texture too.

Wow thanks everyone! So many good ideas. @HolisticHolly919 I'll try agar next time, and the lemon/honey tip sounds perfect. @GummyGuru328 good point about dosage - I was just eyeballing it, maybe I'll get a kitchen scale. @DynamicDan279 love the chia idea and silicone molds! Going to attempt batch #2 this weekend. Will report back!
