THREAD: Parents: Should we talk to kids about cannabis gummies?Started by OP

Hey everyone, just saw this article and wanted to get your thoughts. # Should You Tell Your 7-Year-Old About Your Weed Gummies?
A recent news report has highlighted a growing concern for parents and guardians: the risk of accidental pediatric cannabis poisoning from edibles like gummies. The article talks about whether parents should be open with their kids about these products to prevent accidents. What do you all think? Is it better to be transparent or keep it hidden?

As a busy professional with two kids, I think transparency is key but age-appropriate. My 8-year-old knows I take vitamins in gummy form, but I keep my CBD gummies (for stress) clearly labeled and locked up. I told him some gummies are only for adults, like medicine. Accidents happen when things look like candy - gotta be proactive, not just secretive. No time for ER visits!

omg this is so relevant! im a student living with roommates and we all have different supplements. i dont have kids but my little cousin visits sometimes. i keep my regular gummy vitamins on the counter but anything else (like sleep aids) goes in a high cabinet. maybe just teach kids not to touch stuff that isnt theirs? but yeah, talking helps - i remember my mom explaining adult meds when i was young. budget tip: use cheap lockboxes from dollar stores!

DIY enthusiast here! I make my own herbal gummies sometimes (like with melatonin or calming herbs). With my niece around, I always store them in opaque jars with big "ADULT ONLY" labels I designed myself. I think honesty works - I explained to her that some gummies help grown-ups relax, just like how kids have special vitamins. It's about safety through education, not fear. Maybe even involve them in making safe kid-friendly gummy recipes together?

Supplement skeptic chiming in. This is why I'm wary of all these gummy trends - they blur lines between candy and medicine. Whether it's weed gummies or regular supplements, kids can't tell the difference. Parents should absolutely talk to their kids, but more importantly, stop treating gummies as harmless. Keep them out of reach, period. No need to over-explain to a 7-year-old - just say "these are not for kids" and lock them up. Simple.
