THREAD: DIY Gummy Vitamin Disaster - Help with Homemade Recipe!Started by SupplementSteve190

Hey all, desperate dad here trying to make gummy vitamins for my kids. Tried mixing some vitamin C powder with gelatin and juice, but they came out weirdly rubbery and wouldn't set right. Kids won't touch them. Anyone have a foolproof recipe? I'm running on 3 hours sleep and really need these to work so I can stop fighting about vitamins every morning!

Oh honey, I've seen this before! As a retired nurse, let me tell you - temperature matters. Gelatin needs to bloom in cool liquid first, then gently heat (don't boil!). And vitamin powders can affect texture. What ratio did you use? Also, are you using molds? Silicone ones work best. My grandkids love my mango-flavored ones with a multivitamin mix!

Dude I feel you on the sleep deprivation. Tried making probiotic gummies last month and they turned into sticky blobs. Mia's right about temp - I think I overheated mine. Also found that adding a tiny bit of citric acid helps with texture and shelf life. What liquid are you using? I switched from juice to herbal tea and it worked better.

Yuri's citric acid tip is good! Also Steve - are you using pure vitamin powder or a blend? Some have fillers that mess with gelling. And for kids, try natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup (just a bit!). Remember: 1 tbsp gelatin per 1/2 cup liquid is a good start. Let them set overnight in fridge. Don't give up - homemade means you control what's in them!

Thanks both! Using pure vit C powder from the health store. Was doing 1 tbsp gelatin to 1 cup juice - maybe too much liquid? Will try your ratios tonight after bedtime (if I stay awake!). Do you think agar would work better than gelatin? Saw it at the store. And yes using silicone molds - at least those worked! Really appreciate the help.
