THREAD: Traveling with gummy vitamins - do they melt? TSA rules?Started by LunarLily706

Hey everyone! I'm going on a big trip next week - flying to Colorado then doing some hiking and road tripping. I always take my gummy multivitamins and collagen gummies with me, but I'm worried about them melting in my luggage or car. Also, what's the deal with TSA? Can I just throw them in my carry-on? Any storage tips for keeping them fresh on the go? Thanks!

LunarLily706 - Fellow gym rat here! I travel for competitions all the time. TSA is fine with gummy vitamins in carry-on or checked bags - they don't count as liquids so no 3-oz rule. BUT they can definitely melt! I learned the hard way when my pre-workout gummies turned into a sticky blob in my gym bag left in a hot car. Now I use a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if I'm driving, or just keep them in my carry-on where it's temperature controlled on planes. Pro tip: put them in a ziploc just in case they do get soft!

As a holistic healer, I recommend considering the energetics of your supplements during travel! For gummies, heat can degrade the natural ingredients. I always pack mine in a dark, airtight glass container (plastic can leach chemicals when warm). For hiking, I wrap the container in a bandana and keep it in the center of my pack away from direct sun. Have you thought about switching to travel-friendly alternatives like powdered greens or capsule forms for your trip? Much more stable and less messy!

Amateur chef perspective: Think of gummies like candy! They're basically gelatin + sugar + vitamins. They'll absolutely melt around 95°F just like gummy bears. For road trips, I keep mine in the cooler with my snacks. For planes, carry-on is best since cargo holds can get cold (which makes them hard) or hot. TSA-wise, no issues - I've flown with my probiotic gummies dozens of times. One time they did pull my bag because the scanner showed 'organic material' but they just looked and waved me through. Maybe don't pack 5 giant bottles though lol.
