THREAD: Help! My homemade magnesium gummies turned into a sticky mess - recipe tips?Started by HubermanHopeful

Hey everyone, amateur chef here trying to DIY some magnesium gummies. I followed a basic gelatin recipe (1 cup juice, 3 tbsp gelatin, 1 tsp magnesium citrate powder) but they never set properly - just a gloopy, sticky blob after 4 hours in the fridge. Did I use too much liquid? Should I try agar instead? Any tips appreciated!

Bro, I feel you. Tried making my own pre-workout gummies last month and same thing happened. Gym rat pro tip: reduce the liquid by 1/4 cup and DOUBLE the gelatin. Also, make sure your magnesium powder is fully dissolved in warm (not hot) liquid before adding gelatin - clumps ruin the texture. What brand mag powder you using?

Oof, sticky gummies are the worst! As a taste-focused foodie, I've found agar agar works better for supplement gummies - sets firmer at room temp. Try: 1 cup tart cherry juice (masks mineral taste), 2 tsp agar powder, 1/2 tsp magnesium glycinate (less bitter), plus a squeeze of lemon juice. Heat to simmer, pour into molds, cool 1 hour. They won't melt in your bag like gelatin ones!

Blessings! Holistic healer here ✨ The energy of your ingredients matters. Are you using filtered water? Tap water minerals can interfere. Also, magnesium oxide absorbs poorly - switch to citrate or glycinate. Pro tip: add 1/8 tsp turmeric for anti-inflammatory synergy AND a nice golden color. Did you bless your molds before pouring? Just kidding... mostly 😉

Thanks all! @EarthElias975 using NOW Foods mag citrate powder. @SproutSid518 gonna try agar version tonight - do you bloom it first? @DynamicDan547 lol I'll charge my crystals near the stove. Update: tried less liquid + more gelatin per Elias' advice and they're setting better but still a bit rubbery. Progress!
