THREAD: Traveling with Magnesium Gummies - Do They Melt? TSA Rules?Started by OP

Hey everyone, planning a trip soon - mix of flying, road tripping, and some hiking. I take magnesium gummies daily for sleep and muscle cramps. Worried about them melting in my bag or car, especially during summer. Also, what's the deal with TSA? Can I bring them in carry-on? Any storage tips to keep them from turning into a sticky mess? Thanks!

Great question! From a chemistry perspective, most gummy vitamins have a melting point around 95-105°F (35-40°C) due to gelatin/pectin bases. In a hot car or direct sun, they can definitely soften or melt. For travel: 1) Use an insulated lunch bag with a small ice pack, 2) Store in original container to show TSA (they're generally fine as supplements, but keep under 3.4oz liquid rule if gel-like), 3) Avoid checked luggage where temps fluctuate more. Hiking tip: wrap container in a towel for insulation!

I've traveled cross-country with my gummies for years. Honestly, they're pretty resilient if you're sensible. Keep them in the glove box or shaded bag during road trips - never had a full melt, just got a bit sticky once in Arizona heat. TSA has never batted an eye at mine in carry-on, but I always keep them in the original bottle with the label. Old-school tip: throw in a silica gel packet from a shoe box to absorb moisture. Works wonders!

Lol, more worried about gummies melting than whether you actually need them? Magnesium deficiency is rare if you eat nuts and greens. But fine, if you insist: these things are basically candy with vitamins. They'll absolutely melt into a gooey mess in a hot car. TSA might question them if they look like random gummy bears. Pro tip: just skip them while traveling - your body won't notice a few days off. Save yourself the hassle.

Vince, while dietary sources are important, studies show up to 50% of Americans don't get enough magnesium. For travelers, stress and activity can increase needs. To the OP: if hiking in heat, consider a small thermos or vacuum-insulated container. Also, check your brand - some use more heat-stable ingredients like carrageenan. Safe travels!
