THREAD: Traveling with Magnesium Gummies - Do They Melt? TSA Rules?Started by OP
1/31/2026, 12:00 PM#1
Hey everyone, planning a trip next week - mix of flying, road tripping, and some light hiking. I rely on my magnesium gummies for sleep and muscle cramps. Never traveled with them before. Do they melt easily in heat? What about TSA rules - can I just toss them in my carry-on? Any storage tips to keep them from turning into a sticky mess? Thanks!

OP, great question! I've flown with my gummies multiple times - TSA has never batted an eye. They treat them like regular vitamins in your carry-on. As for melting, I learned the hard way on a road trip last summer. Left them in the car while hiking, came back to a gummy brick. Pro tip: keep them in the coolest part of your bag, maybe with a small ice pack if it's really hot. Also, original container helps avoid questions.

Minimalist approach here. I decant a week's worth into a tiny silicone pouch - takes up almost no space. TSA-wise, never had issues, but I keep them with my toiletries just in case. They do soften around 85°F in my experience. For hiking, I wrap the pouch in a bandana for insulation. Simpler = better when traveling.

If you're worried about melting, you could DIY a solution! I once made a small insulated sleeve from an old lunch bag and aluminum foil for my gummies during a camping trip - worked like a charm. For TSA, I agree with others, but labeling helps if you're using non-original containers. Maybe add 'Magnesium Supplements' on a piece of tape. Road trip tip: don't leave them in direct sunlight in the car!

As someone who experiments in the kitchen, I've noticed gummy texture changes around 90°F - they get sticky and can fuse together. For travel, I put mine in a small airtight container with a silica gel packet to absorb moisture. TSA has never stopped me, but I keep them accessible just in case they ask. For hiking, maybe put the container in your water bottle pocket to keep it cooler?
