THREAD: Just saw a new study on melatonin gummies - legit or industry-funded fluff?Started by OP

Hey everyone, just came across this article summarizing a recent study (PMID: 12345678) about melatonin gummies and sleep quality. The study claims they're super effective for mild insomnia, but I noticed it was partially funded by a supplement company. What do you all think - legit science or biased marketing? Here's the link: [link to article]. Would love to hear your takes!

Good catch, OP. I pulled up the actual study. The methodology looks solid - randomized controlled trial, double-blind, decent sample size (n=150). The funding disclosure shows 30% from 'VitaSleep Inc.' which raises eyebrows. The results show statistically significant improvement in sleep latency (falling asleep faster), but effect size is modest. I'd say it's credible but with caution - check if the authors have other industry ties. Always follow the money!

Ooh interesting! I've been taking melatonin gummies from 'Nature's Rest' for months and my sleep HAS improved, but I also started meditating and cut out caffeine after 2pm lol. Hard to say what's doing what! But I trust studies more when they're independent. Maybe try a brand without additives? Some gummies have way too much sugar, which defeats the purpose IMO.

tbh i care more about the taste and texture than the study 😅 if it doesn't taste good, i won't take it consistently! my current fave are the citrus burst ones from 'SleepyBear' - they're like candy but with 3mg melatonin. anyone tried those? are they effective or just yummy?

As someone who hits the gym at 5am, sleep is EVERYTHING for recovery. I tried melatonin gummies but didn't feel much diff - but I'm also terrible at sleep hygiene (phone in bed, late workouts). Maybe they work if your lifestyle's already dialed in? That study should control for lifestyle factors better. Also, check the dosage - some brands underdose to save $$.
