THREAD: Just saw this study on melatonin gummies - legit or marketing hype?Started by OP

Hey everyone, came across this article summarizing a recent study (PMID: 12345678) about melatonin in gummies. It claims most brands have inaccurate dosing - some way over, some under. The study tested like 20 brands and found only a few matched their labels. What do you all think? Is this legit science or just fear-mongering? Link: healthnews.com/melatonin-study-2024

As a mom who gives these to my kids occasionally for sleep issues, this is concerning! I've always worried about consistency. The study seems credible from what I skimmed - they used HPLC testing which is standard. But I wonder who funded it? If it's from a competitor, that's biased. Has anyone checked the brand 'SleepyBear'? That's what we use.

Biohacker here - not surprised at all. Most gummies are garbage due to poor manufacturing. The study's methodology looks solid; I cross-referenced the PMID and it's peer-reviewed. Key takeaway: opt for brands with third-party testing (like NSF or USP). I've switched to sublingual melatonin drops for precise dosing. Gummies are for convenience, not accuracy.

Amateur chef perspective - this reminds me of when I tried making homemade melatonin gummies! Even with careful measuring, the distribution was uneven in each batch. So yeah, I believe the study. Maybe stick to trusted brands? Also, has anyone tried adding melatonin to smoothies instead? Works for my post-workout recovery.

Steve, good point on third-party testing - I'll check SleepyBear's website. Rhino, homemade sounds risky without a lab! OP, thanks for sharing. I think we should all be more skeptical of labels. Maybe the mods can start a verified brand list?
