THREAD: New melatonin gummies for kids - helpful or concerning?Started by OP

Hey everyone, just saw this article and wanted to share: "Help your child drift off comfortably with new tummy-soothing sleep gummies"
A recent news highlight points to an emerging trend in the children's sleep aid market: the introduction of melatonin gummies that also claim to soothe tummy issues. They're being marketed as a dual-solution for bedtime struggles. What do you all think about this? Are these a good idea or should we be cautious?

As a mom, I'm super skeptical about this. Melatonin is a hormone, right? Giving it to kids in gummy form feels like we're just making supplements look like candy. My 7-year-old already tries to sneak extra vitamins because they taste good. What's the dosage? Are there long-term studies on kids? I'd want to talk to our pediatrician before even considering these.

Interesting development. I looked up the research - melatonin supplementation in children is still being studied, though it's sometimes used short-term for sleep disorders under medical supervision. Combining it with digestive aids (probably ginger or chamomile?) creates a novel product category. However, the article doesn't mention whether these are FDA-regulated as drugs or supplements. That distinction matters for safety standards.

Honestly, as a busy parent, the convenience appeals to me. My 5-year-old has trouble winding down AND sometimes complains of stomach aches at bedtime. If one gummy could address both issues safely, that would save us the nightly struggle. But I agree with Crystal - need to check with our doctor first. Anyone know if these are available yet or still in development?

The tech behind these is probably cool - timed release formulas, precise dosing mechanisms in gummy form. But I worry about the 'tummy-soothing' claim. Is that just marketing or actual science? Also, what's the app integration like? (kidding... mostly). Seriously though, would want to see third-party testing results before giving to my niece.
