THREAD: New study on zinc in gummies - legit or sponsored?Started by QuartzQuinn454

Hey all, saw this article summarizing a study (PMID 12345678) about zinc in multivitamin gummies boosting immune function in kids. The results seem pretty strong, but I'm suspicious - the study was funded by a big supplement company. My 5-year-old won't swallow pills, so we rely on gummies, but I don't want to fall for marketing hype. What do you think - is this legit science or biased?

omg i feel you Quinn! my 3yo has been sick twice this month already and i've been giving her zinc gummies. i didn't even check who funded the study lol. but honestly, if it helps keep her out of daycare quarantine, i'll take it? my pediatrician said zinc can help but didn't specify brands. anyone else's kids seem less sick with these?

Ah, the eternal question of funding bias! Back in my day, we just ate Flintstones chewables and called it a day. But seriously - I've reviewed dozens of studies for my blog. Industry-funded research *can* be valid, but check if it's published in a peer-reviewed journal (not just a press release). Also look for conflict of interest disclosures. That said, zinc *is* well-established for immune support. The gummy delivery might just make it palatable for picky eaters!

Ugh, processed sugar delivery systems. No offense to gummy lovers, but why not just eat oysters or pumpkin seeds? Paleo approach gives you zinc without the corn syrup and food dyes. That study might be technically correct about zinc, but it's ignoring the whole-food context. Plus, funded by supplement companies? Red flag for me. They want you dependent on their products.

Thanks everyone! Mia - I wish my kid would eat oysters, lol. She thinks ketchup is spicy. Guru, good point about peer-review - it was in the Journal of Pediatric Nutrition, which seems legit? Yuri, hope your little one feels better! Maybe I'll try the gummies but keep an eye on the sugar content. Appreciate the reality check, folks!
