THREAD: Traveling with multivitamin gummies - do they melt? TSA rules?Started by RhinoRich630

Hey all, I'm heading to a conference next week with a 5-hour flight plus layovers. I take my daily multivitamin gummies religiously but never traveled with them before. Do these things melt in checked luggage? What about carry-on - will TSA give me grief? Also, any tips for keeping them fresh during a long trip? Thanks!

RhinoRich630 - good question! As a paleo guy who's always on the move, I've learned a few things. First, NEVER check them - luggage compartments aren't temperature controlled and they'll definitely get soft or melt. Carry-on only. TSA is fine with them as long as they're in original packaging or a clear bag. I use a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack for longer trips, but for flights under 8 hours, just keep them in your carry-on away from direct sun. Pro tip: if they do get sticky, pop them in a hotel fridge for 30 mins before taking.

Oh I feel this! We just did a road trip with the kids and their gummy vitamins. RhinoRich630 - definitely carry them on. TSA hasn't ever stopped us, but we keep them in the original bottle so the ingredients are clear. For road trips, we use a small cooler in the car - nothing fancy, just one of those insulated lunch bags. The biggest issue isn't melting so much as them sticking together if they get warm. If you're hiking, keep them in an inner pocket of your backpack, not the outer where the sun hits. Also, watch humidity - that can make them gummy in a bad way!

Digital nomad here - lived out of a backpack for 2 years with my supplements. RhinoRich630, TSA rules are straightforward: gummies are considered 'solid food' so they're allowed in carry-ons. No liquid limits apply. For storage: I use a hard-sided pill case with a silicone seal to prevent crushing and moisture. If you're going somewhere hot, consider switching to capsule forms for travel days, but if you're committed to gummies, keep them in the coolest part of your bag. Airport lounges usually have fridges if you need to chill them during layovers. Safe travels!
