THREAD: Help! My homemade NAC gummies turned into a sticky mess - recipe tips?Started by OP

Hey everyone, tried making my own NAC gummies at home for the first time. Used gelatin, some fruit juice, and NAC powder from my usual supplement brand. Followed a basic gummy recipe I found online, but they never set properly - just a sticky, gooey blob in my molds. Anyone have a foolproof recipe or know what I might have done wrong? Trying to save some money instead of buying the premade ones.

Bro, I feel you! I tried this last month after my WOD when I realized how overpriced store-bought ones are. KEY TIP: you gotta get the gelatin-to-liquid ratio right. I use 3 tbsp gelatin per cup of liquid (I use coconut water for extra electrolytes). Also, make sure your NAC powder is fully dissolved in warm liquid BEFORE adding gelatin - if it's clumpy, it'll mess up the texture. My batch came out perfect, great for post-workout recovery!

Med student here - just a caution from the pharmacology side. NAC can degrade with excessive heat, so if you're heating your mixture above 140°F, you might be reducing its efficacy. Also, the pH matters - acidic environments (like citrus juices) might affect stability. Have you considered agar instead of gelatin? It sets at room temp so less heat exposure. What was your exact recipe/temps?

Ugh, been there! Made some for my kids (with their pediatrician's okay) and had the same issue. Turns out I wasn't letting the gelatin bloom properly - you need to sprinkle it over cold liquid and let it sit for 5 mins before heating. Also, are you using silicone molds? They release way better than plastic. Honestly though, after 3 failed batches I just buy the clean-label ones from the health store... sometimes DIY isn't worth the kitchen disaster 😅

Thanks all! @BioBob839 - I think my ratio was off, used 2 tbsp per cup. @TeaTina578 - I did use lemon juice for flavor, maybe that messed with it? And heated to almost boiling... oops. @KaleKen735 - I used plastic molds, maybe that's part of it. Gonna try again with agar and silicone molds, lower heat. Will report back!
