THREAD: NAC Gummies - Are we just eating candy with a health claim?Started by HealthHacker

Ugh, just looked at the ingredients on my new NAC gummies and they have 4g of sugar per serving! What's the point of taking a supplement for liver support if I'm dosing myself with unnecessary sugar? This 'candy-fication' of supplements is getting out of hand. My kids think they're treats and keep asking for them! Anyone else frustrated by this?

Hey HealthHacker, I get your concern but hear me out! I've been taking NAC gummies for 2 years now and they've been a game-changer for my respiratory health. Before gummies, I kept forgetting my capsules. The sugar content is minimal compared to actual candy, and the convenience means I actually take it consistently. Sometimes you gotta meet people where they are - if a little sugar gets someone to take their NAC, that's a win!

As someone who makes their own supplements sometimes, I'm with HealthHacker on this one. Pure NAC powder has a sulfur smell/taste that's pretty strong, so companies mask it with sweeteners. But you can make your own capsules easily! I mix NAC powder with a bit of silica to prevent clumping. Takes 5 minutes once a month. Way cheaper too - those gummies are like $25 for 60 servings, I get 200 servings for $15 in powder form.

Frank, that's exactly what I'm talking about! We're paying premium prices for sugar and marketing. GummyGuru - I get the convenience argument, but shouldn't we prioritize purity in supplements? Especially something like NAC that's supposed to help with detox. Feels counterproductive to add artificial colors and sweeteners to something meant to support health.

Not all gummies are created equal though! There are sugar-free options with stevia or monk fruit. And let's be real - most people aren't going to powder their own supplements. If the choice is between someone taking NAC consistently in gummy form vs not taking it at all because they hate capsules, I'll take the gummy every time. The health benefits of NAC outweigh 4g of sugar IMO.
