Hey all, I was scrolling PubMed (yeah I know, I'm a nerd sometimes) and found this recent study on NAC (N-acetylcysteine) for lung health. PMID: 12345678. Basically says it might help with inflammation but the sample size was small and they used a weird dose. Anyone else seen this? Think it's legit or just another biased study funded by supplement companies? I'm skeptical but curious. Link: [fake link]

Dan, I pulled up that PMID. It's a randomized double-blind, but only 40 participants and they used 600mg twice daily. The funding is from a private foundation, not a big pharma. The results are statistically significant but clinically marginal. I'd say it's not total garbage, but don't go buying NAC like it's a miracle cure. Also, note the conflict of interest statement – two authors have ties to a supplement brand. So, grain of salt.

I don't know about the study, but I've been taking NAC gummies for a month and my cough got better. Could be placebo tho. My bottle says 500mg per gummy. Is that even enough? The study used 1200mg. Maybe I should double up? Also, I love that they're gummies – no horse pills! But yeah, I'd like to see a bigger study before I trust it fully.

Ugh, I hate when studies are tiny. 40 people? That's like my extended family. I'll wait for a meta-analysis. But thanks for sharing, Dan! I'm always looking for new info. Has anyone tried the NAC gummies from that brand? I'm curious about taste. I heard they're kinda chalky.

Nina, the chalky ones are usually the cheaper brands. Look for ones with pectin instead of gelatin if you're vegan, and check for third-party testing. As for the study, I'd recommend reading the full text if you can access it. The conclusion says 'further research needed' – which is code for 'we don't know yet.' So, don't overhaul your routine based on this one.
