THREAD: Omega-3 Gummy Flavors - Love the Orange, Hate the Lemon! What Should I Try Next?Started by OP

Hey everyone, need some advice on omega-3 gummy flavors! I'm obsessed with the orange ones from my current brand - they taste like candy, no fishy aftertaste at all. But the lemon flavor in the same bottle? Absolutely terrible, kinda bitter and artificial. I'm almost out and want to try something new. What's the consensus on the 'best' flavor out there? Should I stick with orange or branch out?

OP, I feel you! Taste is everything with these. Orange is solid, but have you tried the mixed berry ones from Nordic Naturals? Game changer. They use real fruit extracts, so it's less 'vitamin-y' and more like a gourmet gummy. The lemon in most brands is trash - they overdo the citric acid to mask the fish oil. Pro tip: avoid anything labeled 'tropical' unless you like pineapple that tastes like cleaning products.

Interesting observations. From a formulation perspective, flavors are often chosen based on lipid oxidation masking efficiency. Citrus oils (like limonene in orange) bind well with EPA/DHA esters, reducing volatile off-flavors. Lemon flavors might fail due to improper emulsification of citral compounds. That said, I've analyzed several brands spectroscopically - the strawberry-acai blends show the highest stability and palatability in blind tastings (n=12 in my home lab).

lol @RhinoRich184 always bringing the science! OP, why not DIY? I make my own with gelatin, honey, and cod liver oil. You can customize flavors - my current batch is orange-ginger, way better than store stuff. If you're buying though, the Carlson's cherry ones are decent. But seriously, once you go homemade, you'll never go back to overpriced gummies with mystery 'natural flavors'.

Vince has a point on customization, but not everyone wants to play chemist in the kitchen. OP, if you're sticking to store-bought, here's my ranking: 1) Mixed berry (any brand), 2) Orange (stick with what works), 3) Cherry (if you like cough syrup vibes). Avoid lemon, grape (tastes like purple), and anything 'sour'. Let us know what you pick!
