Hey everyone, just came across this article and thought it was interesting given our discussions here about supplements vs whole foods. Here's the link and summary:
# The Tofu Era Is Upon Us: How This Ancient Protein Is Redefining Clean Eating
A notable shift is occurring in the wellness and nutrition landscape, driven by a growing consumer preference for whole, minimally processed foods. The article talks about how tofu and other traditional plant proteins are making a comeback as people move away from highly processed options. Makes me wonder about our gummy vitamins and powders - are we going backwards or forwards? What do you all think?

Ah, this takes me back! I remember when I first started blogging about nutrition back in 2010-ish. Everyone was all about powders and isolates - whey protein, soy protein isolate, you name it. Now we're circling back to whole foods like tofu? Funny how trends work. Don't get me wrong, I still take my gummy multivitamin every morning (old habits die hard), but maybe there's something to this whole 'clean eating' movement. Though I gotta say, some of those early 2000s protein powders were... not great tasting lol

As someone who barely has time to meal prep between meetings, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I get the appeal of whole foods - my nutritionist keeps telling me to eat more whole plant proteins. On the other hand... I rely HEAVILY on my protein powder shakes and gummy vitamins to get through the day. The convenience factor is huge. Maybe there's a middle ground? Like, tofu for dinner when I have time, powders for breakfast when I'm rushing out the door. Curious what others think about balancing both approaches.

YES!! This is exactly what I've been saying for years! The supplement industry pushes all these processed powders when we have perfectly good whole food options like tofu, tempeh, lentils... I've been vegan for 8 years and get all my nutrients from food, no gummies or powders needed. The article is spot on - we need to move away from this obsession with isolating nutrients and just eat real food. No hate to those who use supplements, but maybe we should question why we feel we need them instead of just eating a varied plant-based diet?

Mia makes a good point, but I'll play devil's advocate here. Remember when everyone thought margarine was healthier than butter? Then we learned about trans fats. Sometimes 'whole foods' aren't what they seem either. At least with supplements, we know exactly what we're getting. That said, I do think there's room for both. My grandma ate tofu regularly and lived to 94, but she also took cod liver oil (the original supplement!). Maybe the key is not either/or, but being smart about both?
