THREAD: Are prenatal gummies just candy in disguise? Sugar content rant!Started by RhinoRich254

Hey all, been traveling through SE Asia and picked up some prenatal gummies for my wife. She's 12 weeks and we're trying to be healthy, but I just checked the label - 5g of added sugar per serving! That's like a mini candy bar. Are we really giving pregnant women candy and calling it a supplement? What happened to just taking a pill? Feels like the whole industry is just 'candy-fying' everything for convenience. Anyone else annoyed by this?

RhinoRich254 I get where you're coming from, but as someone who cooks everything from scratch, I see the appeal. My sister had terrible morning sickness with her first and couldn't keep pills down. The gummies were the only thing that worked. Yeah, the sugar isn't ideal, but if it means she actually gets her folate and iron, isn't that the priority? Maybe look for brands with less added sugar - I think some use stevia or monk fruit.

OMG this topic is EVERYTHING! As a wellness influencer, I've tried SO many prenatal gummies. The sugar is a real issue - it's often from corn syrup or artificial sweeteners that can disrupt gut health. BUT convenience matters for busy moms-to-be! My advice: check for organic, low-sugar options with methylated folate (not folic acid). Or better yet, get nutrients from whole foods! I have a reel on my page about prenatal smoothie recipes if you want alternatives 💚

Sugar in supplements is a hard NO from me. On keto for 3 years, and even before that I avoided added sugars. Prenatal gummies are just another way big pharma hooks people on sweet stuff. My daughter took traditional pills during her pregnancy - no issues. If you're worried about nausea, try taking them with a small fat-rich meal. Don't fall for the marketing - purity over convenience every time. Check the carb count, it's probably worse than they advertise.
