THREAD: My toddler thinks probiotic gummies are candy - help!Started by WaterWillow796

Hey everyone, I need to share this funny/scary moment from yesterday. My 4-year-old found my bottle of probiotic gummies and thought they were 'special candy.' He ate like 5 before I caught him! He's fine (thank goodness), but now he keeps asking for 'the yummy rainbow bears' instead of his actual vitamins. Anyone else deal with this? I'm laughing but also low-key panicking about making sure he doesn't get into them again.

WaterWillow796 - First, don't panic, but do lock those up immediately! As a retired nurse, I've seen similar cases. Probiotic overdoses in kids usually just cause temporary digestive upset, but call your pediatrician to be safe. For storage, I recommend high cabinets with child locks. With my grandkids, I use a labeled pill organizer and keep it in my purse. Also, try explaining they're 'mommy's medicine' - sometimes that helps!

lol my wife did this with MY gummies last month! She thought they were my energy supplement gummies (which are right next to them in the fridge) and ate a bunch before her morning run. Let's just say... her digestive system had an EXTRA probiotic boost that day ๐. But seriously, maybe try putting them in a different container? I keep mine in an old coffee tin now so there's no confusion.

As a runner, I'm super careful about my supplement routine! For my kids, I use clear communication: 'These are for grown-up tummies only.' For texture issues - my daughter refused them because they were 'too squishy.' We switched to a different brand with a firmer texture (the chewable tablets kind) and now she takes them fine. Maybe try a different form if your little one gets picky? Also, seconding XenonX206 - safety first!

Thanks everyone! Called the doc - he's totally fine, just told me to watch for any tummy issues. Love the coffee tin idea MountainMike! And VeggieVictor755, I might look into those firmer ones if he gets stubborn about his regular vitamins. XenonX206 - they're now on the top shelf of the pantry behind the cereal boxes. Crisis (mostly) averted! Still giggling about 'yummy rainbow bears' though ๐
