My sea moss gummies turned dark and hard - still safe to eat??
Hey all, quick question. I bought a bottle of sea moss gummies about 2 months ago. They were soft and dark green when I got them. Now they're rock hard, almost black, and some are stuck together in a clump. I keep them in my kitchen cabinet, which gets kinda warm. Are they still ok to eat? Don't wanna waste $30 but also don't wanna get sick. Thanks!
Bro, I've had that happen with a different brand. It's usually just moisture loss or sugar bloom. If they're just hard and darker, probably fine. But if they smell weird or have mold, toss 'em. Also, check the expiration date. I keep mine in the fridge now, never had issues since. #gains
I'm no expert, but I photograph a lot of natural supplements for my blog. Color change is often oxidation. Sea moss is sensitive to heat and light. If they were in a warm cabinet, that's likely the cause. Texture change alone isn't necessarily dangerous, but if they're sticking together and hard as rocks, they might have absorbed moisture and then dried out. Could be harmless, but I'd be cautious. Maybe contact the manufacturer? They might replace them.
Thanks for the replies. No mold or weird smell, just hard and dark. I'll try one and see. If I don't post again, you'll know why lol. But seriously, appreciate the help. Gonna store them in the fridge from now on.
Lol you're brave. Let us know how it goes. If you survive, maybe I'll stop throwing out my old ones. But seriously, if they taste off, spit it out. No gain is worth food poisoning.
