THREAD: My toddler thinks Shilajit gummies are candy - help!Started by OP

Okay, I need some advice from fellow parents or anyone who's dealt with this. My 4-year-old found my new bottle of Shilajit gummies and thought they were 'special candy.' He ate THREE before I caught him! He's fine (thank goodness), but now he keeps asking for 'the black candy' and refuses to believe they're vitamins. Anyone else have kids or spouses who mistake these for treats? The texture is kinda chewy like gummy bears, so I get the confusion, but yikes!

OMG, that's scary! Glad your little one is okay. This is exactly why I only buy sugar-free supplements - less appealing to kids. Most gummies have added sugars or syrups that make them taste like candy. Have you checked the ingredients on your Shilajit gummies? If they have sugar, maybe switch to a sugar-free version. Also, always keep them in a locked cabinet! My husband once mistook my elderberry gummies for his snacks too lol.

Interesting point about texture! As an amateur chef, I've experimented with making homemade gummies using gelatin and natural sweeteners. Maybe you could try making your own Shilajit supplements in a different form? Like mixing the powder into smoothies or baking it into something savory. That way, there's no candy confusion. Also, maybe label the bottle with a big 'NOT CANDY' sticker? Just a thought!

As a Paleo dieter, I feel this! My kids are used to seeing me take supplements, but they still get curious. Shilajit has a strong earthy taste though - surprised your toddler liked it enough to eat three! Maybe use it as a teaching moment about 'adult vitamins.' I keep mine in a separate supplement box away from food. Also, consider switching to a non-gummy form if the texture is too tempting. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone! @OrganicOlivia969 - good call on checking ingredients, mine do have a bit of cane sugar. @HubermanHopeful - love the DIY idea, but I'm not that skilled in the kitchen haha. @MangoMia215 - yeah, I was shocked he ate them too! They smell kinda weird to me. Update: I moved the bottle to a high shelf and told my kid they're 'mommy's special rocks' (which is kinda true with Shilajit!). He lost interest. Crisis averted, but lesson learned!
