THREAD: DIY Sleep Gummies Disaster - Help with Homemade Recipe Using Vitamin Powders!Started by IvyIron9

Hey everyone, I tried making my own sleep gummies at home last night and it was a total fail. Used gelatin, some melatonin and magnesium powder I had, plus a little honey for sweetness. They came out super rubbery and wouldn't set properly - more like weird vitamin jello blobs. Anyone have a solid recipe or tips on ratios? I'm determined to get this right without buying the expensive store ones!

lol been there! When I was in Bali last month I tried making these with agar agar instead of gelatin since it was all I could find. Key is temperature control - if your mixture gets too hot, the vitamins can degrade. I use a candy thermometer now and never go above 160°F. Also, are you mixing your powders with a tiny bit of oil first? Helps prevent clumping. My current recipe: 1 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, 1/4 tsp each melatonin & magnesium glycinate, mixed with 1 tsp coconut oil before adding.

First, kudos for DIY-ing and reducing packaging waste! 🌿 Have you considered the source of your ingredients? Conventional gelatin often comes from factory farming. I use grass-fed bovine gelatin or agar from sustainable seaweed. Also, natural sweeteners like maple syrup might integrate better than honey. For setting issues - did you let them cool at room temp first before refrigerating? Rapid temperature changes can cause separation. My batch last week with chamomile extract and lavender oil turned out great using this method!

Dude, I feel you! Tried this last weekend between my hiking trip and family stuff. Mine turned into a sticky mess that welded itself to the silicone molds. Pro tip: spray your molds with a light coconut oil spray first. Also, maybe cut back on the honey? Too much liquid sweetener can mess with the gelling. I used 1 packet unflavored gelatin + 1/3 cup tart cherry juice (natural melatonin!) + my vitamin powders, and they finally worked on the third try. Don't give up!
