So I bought those bright red gummy vitamins from Costco, the ones that look like fruit snacks? Yeah, my 4-year-old spotted them on the counter and now she keeps calling them 'red candies.' I caught her trying to climb the pantry shelves today. I'm a student on a budget and can't afford a ER trip for vitamin toxicity. Anyone else have this problem? How do you hide them? I'm considering a bike lock at this point lol.

Oh boy, been there with my grandkids. First off, don't feel bad – those things are basically candy with a health label. My daughter uses a locked toolbox for her meds. But for vitamins, she just keeps them in a high cabinet behind the pots and pans. Out of sight, out of mind. Also, have a serious talk with the little one – even at 4 they understand 'yucky medicine' if you explain it right. But yeah, lock em up. Better safe than sorry.

I work nights so my sleep schedule is messed up, but I've had my share of softgel mishaps. My husband (a grown man) once ate like 6 of my hair, skin & nails gummies because he thought they were 'adult fruit snacks.' He spent the next day with a stomach ache and a lesson learned. Now I keep mine in a weekly pill organizer that's clearly labeled. Maybe try a pill case with days of the week? Kids might not associate that with candy. Also, the texture – some softgels are squishy like gummies, so I get the confusion. You could switch to a different form? But honestly, hiding is your best bet.

Thanks guys. The toolbox idea is genius. I'm gonna hit up the dollar store for a cheap lockbox. And yeah, I'll try the 'yucky medicine' talk too. ZenZoe, your husband story made me laugh – at least I'm not alone! GreenGreg, I appreciate the grandparent wisdom. Fingers crossed my kid doesn't figure out the lock combination by next week.
