THREAD: Traveling with gummy vitamins - do they melt? TSA rules?Started by XenonX481

Hey everyone! Planning a big trip next month - mix of flying, road tripping, and some hiking. I always pack my kids' gummy vitamins (the ones with extra vitamin D and C) but I'm worried about them melting in a hot car or during a flight. Also, what's the deal with TSA? Can I just throw them in my carry-on? Any storage tips would be awesome!

XenonX481 - good question! I travel a lot for work and always bring my paleo-friendly gummies (no artificial stuff). TSA-wise, I've never had issues with them in my carry-on - they don't care about supplements. But melting is real! On a road trip last summer, mine got sticky in the glove box. Now I use a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if it's hot, or just keep them in the cooler section of my backpack. For hiking, I put them in a ziplock inside my pack where it's shaded.

Oh dear, I worry about this too when I visit my grandkids! I bring those calcium gummies for myself. The airport people have never stopped me, but I always keep them in the original bottle so it's clear what they are. For storage, don't leave them in direct sun - even in the car. I once had a bottle get all stuck together after a day trip. Maybe put them in the trunk if you're driving? And on planes, the overhead bin gets warm, so keep them under the seat if you can.

Thanks TeaTina566 and GummyGuru328! The insulated bag idea is smart - I already pack one for snacks anyway. Good to know TSA doesn't care. GummyGuru328, you're right about the original bottle, I'll do that too. Anyone ever try putting them in the fridge at hotels? I'm thinking that might help reset them if they get soft.

XenonX481 - yep, hotel fridge works! I've done that when mine got too warm. Just don't freeze them - they can get weirdly hard. Also, pro tip: if you're hiking in heat, wrap the bottle in a bandana or put it in a sock for extra insulation. Works for my electrolyte gummies too. Safe travels!
