THREAD: DIY Super Green Gummies Disaster - Help! Gelatin Won't Set ProperlyStarted by MindfulMila564

Hey everyone, desperate for advice here! I tried making my own Super Green gummies at home last night after work - wanted something healthier than store-bought. Used gelatin, some spinach powder, spirulina, and a multivitamin blend. Followed a basic recipe online, but they came out super sticky and wouldn't set firm. Just a gooey mess! Anyone have tips for getting the right consistency? I'm on a tight schedule between meetings, so need something foolproof.

Mila, classic beginner mistake! Gelatin can be tricky. Did you bloom it first? You gotta soak it in cold water for 5-10 mins before heating. Also, too much liquid or not enough gelatin will ruin it. I'd recommend a 3:1 ratio of liquid to gelatin by weight for gummies. And careful with acidic ingredients - they can mess with setting. Maybe try agar agar instead? It's plant-based and sets firmer, but different technique. What recipe did you use?

Oh man, this takes me back! Reminds me of my grandma's homemade fruit jellies in the 90s - she'd always say 'patience is key.' For gummies, temperature control is everything. Don't rush the cooling! Let them set in the fridge overnight, not just a few hours. Also, are you using mold inhibitors? Without them, homemade gummies can get weird fast. Maybe add a touch of lemon juice? Not sure if that helps with greens, but it worked for her strawberry ones. Good luck!

Fascinating project! As a health enthusiast, I've made dozens of batches. First: ensure your vitamin powders are heat-stable - some nutrients degrade above 40°C! Second: spirulina can alter pH, affecting gelatin. Try adding 1/4 tsp citric acid to stabilize. Third: use grass-fed gelatin for better results. I have a tested recipe: 1 cup juice, 4 tbsp gelatin, 2 tbsp honey, supplements. Heat gently, never boil! Pour into molds, refrigerate 4+ hours. Share your exact ingredients/measurements, and I'll troubleshoot further!
