THREAD: DIY Super Green Gummies Disaster - Need Help with Homemade Vitamin Gummies!Started by OrganicOlivia424

Hey everyone, night shift worker here trying to make my own super green gummies at home to save some cash and control ingredients. I used gelatin, some spinach powder, spirulina, and a multivitamin powder I crushed up. Followed a basic gummy recipe online but they came out SUPER bitter and the texture is weirdly rubbery? Like chewing on erasers lol. Anyone have tips for masking the vitamin taste or getting the right consistency? Also worried I'm destroying the nutrients by heating them...

Olivia! Fellow health enthusiast here - love the DIY spirit but gotta be careful with those vitamins. First, are you using a sugar-free recipe? Bitterness often comes from certain vitamin powders (B vitamins are notorious). Try adding a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup to your mix, and use citrus juice (lemon/orange) instead of water - helps mask flavors. For texture, make sure you're not overheating the gelatin - keep it under 160°F. And YES, heat can degrade some vitamins! Consider adding powdered vitamins AFTER the mixture cools slightly (around 120°F). What's your current process?

Digital nomad popping in from a cafe in Bali! I've experimented with agar instead of gelatin for travel-friendly gummies (they don't melt as easy). Agar sets firmer though, so if you want that classic gummy bear chew, stick with gelatin. For the bitterness - I add a pinch of stevia and use matcha powder instead of some greens, gives a nicer flavor. Also, have you tried using flavored vitamin powders? Some companies make fruit-flavored versions that blend better. Pro tip: silicone molds are worth the investment - makes demolding way easier!

omg i tried making these last month for my meditation routine and had the same rubbery issue! i think i overmixed the gelatin? also the spirulina taste was... intense lol. what worked for me was using less powder (like half what recipes say) and adding mashed banana for sweetness and texture. they're not super potent vitamin-wise but way more edible! maybe start weaker and build up? also storing in fridge helps texture i think. good luck!!
