Help! My Super Green Gummies turned dark and hard – safe to eat?
Hey everyone, I've been taking Super Green Gummies for a couple weeks now and they're usually soft and bright green. But my latest bottle (same batch code?) the gummies are darker, kind of brownish-green, and they've gotten really hard, almost like candy. A few are stuck together too. Is this normal or did they go bad? Safe to eat? Thanks!
Hey there! Color and texture changes in gummies can happen due to oxidation and moisture loss. The darkening might be from chlorophyll or other plant extracts reacting to light or air. Hardness can occur if the gummies lose moisture. They might not be as potent or tasty, but if they don't smell funky or show mold, they're likely safe. Just store them in a cool, dark place and maybe toss them if they've been exposed to heat. When in doubt, contact the company!
I've seen this with homemade gummies. The sugar bloom (white-ish coating) forms when moisture condenses and then evaporates, leaving sugar crystals. That's harmless. But if they're super hard, they might be past their prime. You can try warming them slightly (like in your mouth) to soften, but they might taste off. I'd probably eat them if no mold, but they might not be as enjoyable.
Umm, I wouldn't risk it. I've had gummies that changed texture and they gave me a tummy ache. It's not worth the few bucks. I'd contact the company and ask for a replacement. Also, if you're worried, just toss them. Your health is more important than a supplement. Trust your gut – literally!
I'm with Noah439 – better safe than sorry. But also, have you checked the expiration date? Maybe they're old. Also, if you stored them in a hot car, that could cause melting and then hardening. I'd say if they don't taste sour or smell rancid, they're probably fine, but why risk it? I'd get a new bottle and use them quickly.
