THREAD: Homemade Vitamin D Gummies Disaster - Need Recipe Help!Started by MountainMike

Hey everyone, tried making my own vitamin D gummies last night and it was a total fail. Used gelatin, some vitamin D powder I got online, and a bit of lemon juice for flavor. They came out super rubbery and wouldn't set right - more like weird jello blobs than gummies. Anyone have a solid recipe or tips? I need my D fix but store-bought are getting pricey!

Oh no, Mike! I feel your frustration. I tried making calming magnesium gummies once with agar agar instead of gelatin - maybe that's worth exploring? The texture was different but they set better. Have you considered adding a touch of honey or maple syrup? Sometimes natural sweeteners help with consistency. Also, are you letting them set in the fridge? That always helps my attempts. Sending positive vibes for your next batch!

MountainMike - timing is everything! I make my gummies during my eating window (18:6 fasting schedule). Key things: 1) Don't overheat the gelatin - it denatures. 2) Mix the vitamin powder with a tiny bit of oil first (vitamin D is fat-soluble!). 3) Use silicone molds - game changer. My recipe: 1/2 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, 1 tbsp honey, 500 IU D3 powder. Heat juice, dissolve gelatin OFF heat, mix in D/oil blend, pour, fridge 2 hrs. Works every time.

Working from Bali right now and dealing with similar issues in this humidity! Mike - check your gelatin bloom time. If you're rushing it, that causes rubberiness. Also, what's your powder source? Some cheap suppliers use fillers that mess with texture. I use a digital scale for precise measurements - crucial when you're tweaking recipes between co-working sessions. Pro tip: add a pinch of citric acid for that tangy store-bought taste. Let us know how round 2 goes!
