THREAD: My Vitamin D gummies look weird - are they still safe to eat?Started by OP

Hey everyone, I've been taking these Vitamin D gummies for a few months now, but I just opened the bottle and they look... off. Some have turned a darker color, others feel kinda hard and crumbly, and a few are stuck together. They're not expired yet, but I'm worried. Has anyone else had this happen? Are they still safe to take?

Ugh, that sounds like a storage issue! Gummies are so sensitive to heat and humidity. I bet they were exposed to moisture or got too warm. Personally, I'd toss them - better safe than sorry, and we don't need more plastic waste from questionable supplements. Maybe try storing your next batch in a cool, dark place? Or switch to a brand with more eco-friendly packaging that seals better!

Ah, the old 'sugar bloom' or hardening trick. My grandma used to say that happens when they sit around too long or aren't sealed properly. They're probably fine to eat if they're not moldy or smell weird, but the texture might be unpleasant. Back in my day, we just took plain vitamin D drops - none of this gummy nonsense! But if you're set on gummies, maybe buy smaller bottles so they don't sit as long.

Interesting! This is likely due to crystallization of sugars or changes in the gelatin matrix from temperature fluctuations. While it might not be harmful chemically, the altered texture could indicate reduced potency or uneven distribution of Vitamin D. Check the storage instructions on the label - most recommend below 25°C. If they've been in a hot car or humid bathroom, I'd err on the side of caution and replace them. Safety first!

Ugh, I feel you - I'm always rushing and my gummies end up in my bag or car. Had this happen last month. They tasted fine but were kinda gritty. I just took them anyway bc no time to buy more lol. If they're not expired and you're in a pinch, probably okay? But def not ideal. Maybe set a phone reminder to check them regularly. #adultingishard
