THREAD: Weird side effect from OLLY Sleep gummies - anyone else?Started by NatureNancy996

Hey all, so I started taking the OLLY Sleep gummies (the blackberry ones with melatonin and herbs) about 2 weeks ago to help with my occasional insomnia. Honestly, they do help me fall asleep a bit faster, but here's the weird thing: my skin has cleared up noticeably! I've struggled with mild adult acne for years, and suddenly my face is smoother and less red. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm wondering if it's the chamomile or lemon balm extracts doing something anti-inflammatory? Or maybe just better sleep = better skin? Curious if others have noticed unexpected benefits.

Nancy, that's interesting but I'm skeptical. I tried those gummies last month for my sleep too (my teen kept me up worrying lol). They did help me relax, but I didn't see any skin changes. Are you sure it's not just a coincidence? Maybe you changed your diet or skincare routine? I'm always cautious about attributing too much to supplements—my doctor says they're not regulated like meds. But hey, if it's working for you, that's great! Just keep an eye out for any weird side effects.

Fascinating observation, Nancy! As a research librarian, I dug into this briefly. Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) has documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in some studies, and chamomile is known for skin-soothing effects topically. L-theanine may reduce stress, which can indirectly improve skin conditions like acne. A 2021 review in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment noted that stress reduction can positively impact inflammatory skin issues. However, most evidence is preliminary for oral supplements. Could be a synergistic effect—better sleep reduces cortisol, plus herbal anti-inflammatories. SolarSam makes a valid point about correlation vs. causation, but anecdotally, it's plausible. Have you tracked any other changes?

Whoa, cool side effect! I'm on a paleo diet and avoid most processed stuff, but I tried these gummies for sleep during a stressful work week. They knocked me out, but I didn't stick with 'em 'cause of the sugar content (3g per serving, right?). But I did notice I felt less anxious during the day—maybe that's the L-theanine? If it's helping your skin, that's a bonus! Maybe it's all about reducing inflammation, which is huge on my diet. Just watch the ingredients if you're sensitive to additives. Glad it's working for you though!
